Brushing

It’s important to brush your Havanese regularly, especially starting when it is a puppy so it can get used to be handled eventhough it is still small and doesn’t have much hair yet.

As an adult regular grooming is necessary to keep the coat in top condition. A good brushing at bottom before the bath is essential, because the wet knots will be very difficult to eliminate after the bath.

Bathing
Using a Ph balanced shampoo especially formulated for dogs, apply a line of shampoo along the back and skull. Massage right down to the skin, working the shampoo through the coat, down and under the tail, the underside, legs and feet. Don’t forget to do between the toes. Lather the head, being careful not to get soap in the eyes. Give lots of praise. Handle the coat gently like washing a wool sweater, don’t scrub or the coat will mat.

After thoroughly lathering, rinse with warm water and a medium spay. Gently rinse the head and neck first, working your way down the body, making sure you get all the soap out (soap residue can cause skin irritation). Rinse again until the water runs clear. Give lots of praise.

Conditionner

It must be of good quality, mine is diluted because very concentrated. In general I take the shampoo and after-shampoo of the same brand.
Work through the coat and let to stand 10 min, then, rinse thoroughly.
Pass the drier gently to start because often they are afraid of the noise, dry well everywhere, lay it down on the blanket to dry its belly and the legs suitably, be persevering at that beginning will be only easier afterwards.

Frequency of bathing
The 1st bath at 3 months, then I would say that it depends on the life of the dog.  The more he will play and walk the more he will dirty himself. Dust makes the hair difficult to comb and if you want to keep it long without damaging it will be necessary for you to wash it between 1 and 2 times per month.

Eyes
It is also important to look after the eyes, it is necessary to remove the normal secretion at the corner of the eyes.
To avoid the formation of tear stain especially on dogs with light color coat where brown stains will be formed.

Ears
A regular and effective maintenance of the ears prevents from infections.
Dropped ears are one of the factors predisposing with auricular problems. It is advised to depilate the interior of the ears of your dog.
The presence of hair at the entrance of the auditory canal increases the risk of otitises: when a great quantity of hairs is present at the entrance of auditory canal, it is not ventilated correctly, which supports the development of bacteria, of mushrooms auricular scale or otocariose…
It is thus advised to pluck the interior of the ears of the dogs whose entry of the conduit is blocked by the hairs what is the case with Havanese.

There exist many veterinary products intended for the basic care of the ears.

You can clean them with a specific auricular lotion. It is enough to pour the lotion and to slightly introduce the end of the bottle into the auditory canal (by taking care not to dirty the end of the bottle), it is necessary to hold the bottle vertically then, masse the base with the inch and the index to distribute the liquid as well as possible, in order to take off well dirtinesses which are at the bottom.

The dog shakes then the head and will thus eliminate itself the dissolved impurities.

What makes it possible to emphasize dirtinesses You do not have then any more but to wipe the interior of the ear with a cotton, without going too deeply in the conduit.

Particular anatomy of the ear of the dog

Oreille shema

There is no risk to wound the tympanum. One should not in no case to use a cotton bud: the canine auditory canal has the shape of L; the use of cotton stem does nothing but pack dirtinesses at the bottom of the horizontal part of the conduit. Moreover, it causes a strong irritation of the conduit, and is likely it to lose the end cotton is not negligible.

One should not either use water to clean the auditory canal because it would support fermentations.

The frequency of the preventive care carried to the ears can be decreased in winter. It is important to use your dog to the auricular care. Indeed, it will not be the day when the dog will have a very painful otitis acute which one will start to make him accept the administration of auricular drops. This is why it is judicious to impose on its pup (as of its 2 or 3 months) a regular cleaning (at least with twice per month) of the ears.

Teeth

Cleaning your Havanese’s teeth

The appearance of tartar, at the man as in the dog, is completely natural, the tartar is formed because of the combined action of saliva and the bacteria which will form a yellow film on the teeth and thus the formation of the dental plaque.

Whereas we them human, go clean the tartar by brushing us the teeth, the dog does not have this possibility him. The tartar of its teeth will thus accumulate and gather more and more germs and bacteria…

What can really disturb a dog which has tartar is quite simply the ignition of the gum. Indeed, the tartar little by little will accumulate under the gum, this one perhaps causes health problems + or less serious. So the gum will be irritated permanently and is likely to bleed during the meals.

And as an ignition of the gum does not only come, your dog is quickly likely to have oral infections or abscesses.

Gum disease, washing away of the tooth, bacterium which proliferates, bad breath.

As many disorders which can have consequences on its manner of feeding and on its health in general.  The most serious consequence for a dog reached of tartar is quite simply to lose one or more teeth.

In short, you will have understood it,

It is important to think of it well and prevent the appearance of the dental plaque of your animal!

What to make in prevention?

The regular brushing of the teeth with a toothpaste remains still the most effective means against the dental plaque. Still is necessary it to manage to convince the animal… Best is to start in the young person: to accustom initially to the absorption of the toothpaste then to a simple massage of the gums with a finger, then with the application of the toothpaste on the teeth with the finger, finally with the brush or the fingerstall. A brushing 2 to 3 times per week is advised.

To become aware that it is important and to maintain the teeth will avoid the formation of tartar at your From Havana, with the years or food the plate perhaps more or less important. With certain type of food the problem worsens.

For certain dogs as from one year, but for others much more quickly. Thus accustomed your from Havana very early to the brushing of its teeth.

How to brush the teeth of my dog?

Example of equipment for the brushing of the teeth of the dog

Dentifrice et brosse

To brush the teeth of a dog makes it possible to slow down the appearance of tartar; the ideal is to begin brushing from teeth of a dog as of the 6 months age, so that he is accustomed to this gesture.

Initially to use a small brush with a good appétant toothpaste which will avoid the proliferation of the bacteria. The fluorine which it contains will reinforce its teeth.

For my part a brushing not too long twice per week would be the ideal.

One finds kits special to wash the teeth of a dog, using adapted toothpaste and of specific brushes.

Of course, you will not use a toothpaste " humain" to wash the teeth of a dog.

Your doggie is likely not to appreciate the mint odor! At Tom& Co, and another site to specialize for example, you can find a lot of products like delicacies, accessories for the washing of the teeth of your dog, the complements for oral hygiene, etc

If not it is descaling already assured at the age two, three years.

The price of a descaling in the dog

If you wish to make scale your dog, because it needs some, better is worth well to envisage your budget. Descaling occurs under general anaesthesia and takes a certain time. Consequently, it can be expensive.

The cost of a descaling in the veterinary surgeon can cost between 60 and 200 € on average. The cost will depend on your veterinary surgeon, but more especially the size of the dog!

This care is not always covered by the canine insurances, because he is often regarded as expenses of prevention. Think of informing you front.

In parallel, note that the purchase of brush with teeth and toothpaste for dog will cost you about ten euros by tube. A regular cleaning of the teeth of the dog can avoid you having to carry out a descaling. It is thus a very good investment on the long run.

The Legs Maintenance of the bearings and the nails

Why remove this hair?

The From Havana one with hairs which will develop abundantly with the level of the bearings by removing it you avoid the formation of large nodes, between the bearings. What can obstruct your dog.

The risk of falls: since your dog goes on its hair and not on its bearings. It is likely to slip, on your tiling, your parquet floor or in the staircase and can quickly become dangerous.

That the dog catches cold: if your dog goes in snow or cool water (see frozen). The hair which is between the bearings will be wet longer and if you do not dry in-depth the legs, of your dog it is likely to catch cold.

Épillets: it is true that one finds of it, generally, that in the south of France. But in spring and in summer, this small plant can be very dangerous. If it is inserted in the bearings of your dog and that this one cannot remove them or that you cannot see them, because of hair.

Care of the Nails

To cut the nails of the dog is necessary when the dog does not have sufficient activity to use them.

It is necessary to cut the nails of its dog for several reasons. First of all the animal is constrained in its displacements, then it is not aesthetic, generally the veterinary surgeon can cut them. Only if he considers that the claws of the dog are too large and on your request. You can also ask it has your toiletteuse or even do it you, because it is really not complicated!

Except if the dog does not let itself make! To reduce to the maximum this behavior. I recommend to you to provide yourselves with delicacy and patience. The goal of the exercise is to render comprehensible to him that to be made touch the legs is something of pleasant (with a delicacy in reward) Start with caresses on a leg and then reward it. Then on another leg with the same method. Repeat the operation 3 minutes per days to desensitize it. For most malignant which in spite of that is not let handle. Reward at the same time as cherish it to you. It will be occupied chewing at the delicacy thus more easily easy to handle. Do not force too much in the first times, especially if your dog really does not like that! It is necessary to include a form of progression to prevent that the animal does not block itself completely.

How to cut the nails of its dog without risk of wound for him

1: It is checked if the length of the claw?

s is correct or if it is necessary to cross to him. For that one poses the leg of the dog on a plane surface. If the claws are posed correctly without leaving on the left or the right-hand side. It is that the size of the claws is good. If not it is necessary to cross.

2: Think of checking that the leg is clean. If it is not the case, clean with a wet rag and remove the brushwood and others…

3: Identify the alive part of the nail. On the clear claws it is rather simple because there is a change of color. On the other hand on the black claws it is impossible. Then do not cross too short. A few millimetres are enough. The important thing is that the claw is posed correctly on the ground.

4: Also think of the pins which are also a gene for the dog. One finds them with the tops of the legs before and back according to the races.

5: Prepare hydrogen peroxide with cotton or a haemostatic powder in the case or you would cross too high. It is not serious it is enough to apply cotton with hydrogen peroxide or to plunge the nail which bleeds in a little haemostatic powder a few minutes to expect the stop of the bleeding
